Older software and a newer operating system can combine to create some sticky problems during and after installation. Windows 98 software, for example, will rewrite the boot record for the system partition on a system running Windows 2000. Next time the system is powered up, there won't be an option to boot in Windows 2000. The solution is a tool called Recovery Console. There are two ways to start the Recovery Console:
